PAX is here to share the love of Jesus with, and make disciples of, 5 to 11 year olds from Pinehurst and the surrounding communities. This is through providing quality after school clubs, holiday clubs and schools work. PAX does this because of the call AND command Christ has placed in our hearts.
PAX is the weekly club run by HCC, happening every Thursday afternoon @ the Pinehurst Community Centre. It is has no biases towards kids, whether from church or not, regardless of background.
Format
Pax usually runs for an hour and a half, and follows roughly the styles of YoungLife & Kids Klub. This is fast paced, full of loads of short, usually energetic, short slots, mostly lead from the front. But there's also a "message" element, where a story from the Bible is often shared, or a particular verse, and then a life lesson is drawn out of that. This is something the kids can understand in practical ways, and is discussed in short group times.
We don't always stick to the crazy games, bizarre "skits" and amazing stories. Sometimes we just want to mess around, so we might add in a messy craft. Then we even scrap the "program" entirely and do a Social. This is either in the form of an outing, like going ten pin bowling, or one big game or activity for the entire 90 minutes at the normal club venue. So maybe a film, or water based outdoor games.
Although normal Pax club only runs during term time, we usually have a program for half terms and holidays. We've done scavenger hunts round local woods, multi sports days, even dance and basketball workshops!
Team
PAX is planned, run & led by Ross Hartwig, HCC's Children's Worker, but is supported by an invauable team of committed volunteers. Ross is a qualified first aider, so everyone stays safe. The teams volunteers range in age from 16 to much older than that, and that's a valuable thing. It helps kids build relationships with a wide range of people, from their peers, the generation above them and even people old enough to be their parents.
Pax, all in all, aims to see kids reach their potential, not necessarily in a particular skill, but in who they are. It's exciting to see once shy kids coming out of their shells, and in some cases becoming leaders amongst their peers! Come check us out, every Thursday, during term time.
